The island of Hirado was where both the Dutch and the English first set up trading posts in Japan. Still quite a lot of the Dutch East India Company sites still exist like the old warehouse and some old wells.
Oysters are a local delicacy in Hiroshima. They have a different flavour to Australian oysters (or American oysters). The place where I had lunch does them steamed in the shell. Also had scallop nigiri sushi.
