Sakurajima
I'm now in the city of Kagoshima. My hotel has a great view of the active volcano, Sakurajima.
Yes that is smoke rising from the volcano as it is quite active.

Beppu Jigoku.
The hotel has a signature cocktail called Beppu Jigoku, which literally means Beppu Hell. Beppu has a lot of hells, seven to be exact. These hells are hot-springs that are too hot to bathe in, and would be fatal if you did. The cocktail gets its name from its colour and fortunately not it's temperature. Very tasty drink. It also came with canapes.
Hahaha, just hope it doesn’t go all Vesuvius on you - or is it more of a ‘relaxed’ Hawaiian style volcano?
ReplyDeleteIt's more Yellowstone. Sakurajima is the active peak in the centre of a supervolcano. The caldera is the bay. It quite often let's of steam. Last major eruption back in the early 1900s converted Sakurajima from an island to a peninsula.
