Sakurajima

I'm now in the city of Kagoshima. My hotel has a great view of the active volcano, Sakurajima.
Yes that is smoke rising from the volcano as it is quite active.

    Hahaha, just hope it doesn’t go all Vesuvius on you - or is it more of a ‘relaxed’ Hawaiian style volcano?

      It's more Yellowstone. Sakurajima is the active peak in the centre of a supervolcano. The caldera is the bay. It quite often let's of steam. Last major eruption back in the early 1900s converted Sakurajima from an island to a peninsula.
