William Adams
William Adams was an English sailor who came to Japan when the Dutch ship he was on ran aground off the Japanese coast in 1600. He became advisor to the Shogun and was made a high ranking Samurai. If this sounds familiar the novel and TV series Shogun is loosely based on William Adams life. His grave in in Hirado.
Hooray Pete, well done - now able to comment. I think I managed to watch parts of Shogun on several occasions but never managed to see the whole thing!
